Pool ventilation starts with the moisture balance

Understand evaporation first

For a swimming pool, I start with water temperature, air conditions, water surface area and the expected level of activity. A quiet hotel pool and an active leisure pool are different design cases, even when their dimensions are similar. Water attractions and operating schedules also affect the moisture load.

Check more than one operating condition

VDI 2089 provides a framework for pool-hall design, but the relevant edition and project requirements must be checked. I document the assumptions behind the evaporation calculation, then assess how outdoor air and dehumidification can remove that moisture under different seasonal conditions.

Air distribution matters just as much as the calculated capacity. Glazing, cold surfaces, occupied zones and pressure relationships need attention. A humidity setpoint on its own does not prevent local condensation or guarantee a comfortable pool hall.
